The Problem
Local restaurants and food businesses struggle to compete with chains and delivery apps that commoditize food. Communities have lost the social fabric around local dining — eating out has become a transaction, not an experience.
The Process
Designed Pine as a social commerce platform where buying is better together. Group buying mechanics give users price cuts while driving volume to local businesses — a win-win that platforms like UberEats can't replicate.
Built the mobile app using React Native with Firebase for real-time features, Stripe for payments, and Next.js for the web presence. Operated across Oslo and London.
Focused on the community angle: shared experiences, group orders, and local discovery. The platform made supporting local businesses feel social and rewarding, not obligatory.
